Episode #35: Learning & Development with @HRGore

In episode no. 35 we warmly welcome Dr. Hannah Gore (@HRGore) to the #InVinoFab podcast. Hannah Gore was invited to join Solera Holdings last year to design and develop their business school, initially launching to 46 countries across 26 companies, it is set to expand to 88 countries by the end of this year. During her 13 years at The Open University, Hannah developed content for circa 10 million learners worldwide on a variety of platforms including Amazon Kindle, Google, and iTunes U. When not working, earning multiple learning awards, or getting a number of degrees, she can be found in the kitchen cooking up vegan delights or on trails training and running ultras with her rescue dog Toby.
During her 13 years at The Open University (OU), Hannah developed content for circa 10 million learners worldwide on a variety of platforms including Amazon Kindle, Google, and iTunes U. She has also completed an undergrad, 3 postgrads, and her doctorate in engagement in massive open online courses (MOOCs) and subsequent impact on learning design. Her doctorate is the largest published single source data set on MOOCs. She holds the record for being the youngest female MBA graduate in the OU’s 50 year history, and holds 4 international awards to her name. When not working, earning awards, or multiple degrees, she can be found in the kitchen cooking up vegan delights or on trails training and running ultras with her rescue dog Toby.

We had a lovely conversation about unconventional education tracks and surprisingly welcome career changes. With ambition and drive, I was honored to hear what motivates her to live her life to the fullest. I was so excited to have a proper chat with Hannah after following her adventures, of travel. ultra running training, and doggo on Instagram and Twitter. I asked Dr. Gore to join us for the pod to share her experience in transition from higher education (HE) to corporate learning and development (L&D), so we had a refreshing conversation about marathon job interviews, finding your job fit and fulfillment, breaking out of academia, socialist L&D movements, and testing/trying learning design research into training curriculum for the workforce.

“If you don’t fit the mold, if it’s a little bit strange this works for us. At last! My kind of people... I can be weird, and people will embrace it.” ~ Hannah shares how cultural fit works for her career change and how she works.

“It’s not just, will you accept with the culture, but will the culture work with you.” ~@HRGore

“When you create a course it is a narrative, and it is a story and a journey you are taking [the learners] on.” ~ @HRGore
